This is a Service Manual for Canon EOS 5D Mark II: Parts Catalog – List & Schematics.

It is NOT usually available to public, so we think lot of people will like and appreciate it very much!

Besides it is really interesting and it might be very useful for some users, there are some interesting statements on page 1 of this document:

Information revision

This Service Manual could include typographical errors or technical inaccuracies due to improvements or changes in the products. For this reason, when changes occur in the content of this Service Manual, Canon will release service information as the need arises.”

I have a 5D mkII with the latest firmware.
The electronic engineer in me wants to mod the 5D to improve the video monitoring, ie using an external monitor that wont kill the live view!!! downloaded the manual via your site but its only the parts catalogue, no schematics!!?? Do you know where I can get hold of these, any ideas. I’m in the UK.
    Thanx

      Hi Chris,

The “schematics” refers to schematics of the parts assembling, not the electronic schematics.

Unfortunately that information (like even the Parts catalog) is something Canon doesn’t give to public.

We got the link to this document and shared with you, but so far we don’t have further technical information that we can share, and Canon doesn’t sell it either.

You might want to try contacting some tech service centers, since they are the only ones who have service manuals for this camera, that could be of some help in your case.

      Regards.

PS: Be careful if you mod the electronics!
We are somewhat concerned about the stability and possible overheating.
There is a small group working to achieve some results via Firmware, not easy at all anyway…
Please let us know in case you mod your 5D Mark II. It would be VERY interesting to know the results (and post them in an article if you give us permission).

        Hi,

can you please re-post the parts list? The link gives a “This particular Document no longer exists.” error I’m afraid. It would be a great service to the community.

Right now all I can find is the 5D parts list.

        Thanks!

Hello, admin, the link is not working again. Can you please re-post the service manual and the blown-up schematic? Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up! The .PDF service manual is now online again ;)

            Cheers

            Hello Admin, the link is not working again. It gives the following message;

            Download not available
Download permission denied by uploader. (0b67c2f5)

          • Admin Says:

Thank you for the heads up.

We didn’t deny the download at all. It seems the server is blocking the download by some reason from time to time.

We’ve uploaded it again (several times) but Rapidshare is displaying the same message even when it’s fully available for free download. As we posted, we’ve made it fully and freely available from 2010.

So we’ve added a Paypal donation button for those who can’t download it after some tries and would like it to be delivered via e-mail.

            Thanks!

    HI
I had a feeling that was the case. I suspect It switches off the liveview display to conserve battery power. The liveview drops the mirror after 30 secs or so allegedly to stop overheating but when recording it will run for 12 mins with no problem, apart from the fact it doesn’t beep to tell you it’s stopped!!! but you can record for anothe r 12 mins straight afterwards. I think its all about not flattening the battery when you’re not recording!

If you set Metering Time to more than 30 seconds the Live View display will stay ON for the selected value ;) Although we don’t recommend to keep LV ON if not necessary. The reasons is that the hotter the sensor, the less clean the image you will get (noise/hot pixels, very especially at high ISOs)

Yes, it should certainly beep to alert the recording has stopped!!.. such an easy function to add in the firmware…

There are so many improvements that can still be made to this wonderful camera.. that make us feel it’s unfair to leave it “as is”…

    Dear 5D2 team,

Do you have a resource or do you know a company that could deliver these separate items? I’m talking internal parts such as ribbon cables etc. …
basically every part number that’s listed in the catalog..
I’m guessing that Canon themselves will object to selling these parts separately, only working via official repair centers (and these guys won’t be bothered just selling parts).

      Hi Hans,

Until now we only know one place where there is a chance that you could get some parts (not all, since like you said, those parts are almost only available for service centers).

      Check: http://www.uscamera.com

Maybe they can get some parts if you need some specific ones. Just send them an email.

We got the link to the 5D Mk II Parts Catalog posted on this blog from a very different source, and that source has nothing to do with selling parts nor a website related to it. So we can’t help much on this regard.

      Best regards.
