This has been a long road indeed… with huge amount of time spent on spreading information to the public, phone calls, emails, private conversations with Canon and lot more. We did our best, and learned a lot in the path.

Now we will finally get the so much expected (and delayed) firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark II for ALL users, and not only for few “lucky” ones.

Full Manual Control was just our first goal. Now the standard 24/25/30 frame rates, and other highly requested improvements will also be available to ALL users of the first DSLR in the world with Full HD capabilities. The List of possible Fixes & Improvements was and is still long though.

There are many factors that make influence on a company’s decision, and the huge amount of customers requesting to Canon all around the world through our campaigns, and by their own ways, clearly made a change (as many Canon representatives already told).

MANY times we heard words like “No, Canon will not update the 5D Mark II”, even by renowned people. You probably heard them too, but we did not give up because we did know it was possible to do, and we were firm in our purpose.

That people telling those words didn’t understand nor realize how a HUGE amount of customers showing so big interest on many possible improvements could make influence on the company’s decisions. It’s all about business, of course we know that, so we all “showed” Canon that improving the 5D Mark II is a good business due lot of reasons.

We know this Firmware could’ve been released MUCH earlier to customers, and we know it could include more improvements too (720p50 and 720p60 modes have been removed from the “official” release). Canon has been doing changes lately…

But it’s finally here, so we say THANKS CANON for these great improvements.

We send big and special thanks to all those people who joined forces to contact Canon in all possible ways, to spread all our campaigns and efforts to let Canon know what we all want and need.

All those people who participated in our “Calling Canon” Campaign, were very important, and made a clear impact which reflected in Canon’s announcement few weeks later, in October 20th, 2009. As we said many times: Community actions do bring results.

It’s not available for download yet, although as we already reported in our previous post it’s available at several Canon Tech Service Centers since firsts weeks of February.

Soon it will be time to update the 5D Mark II with the official firmware and take more advantage of its huge potential.

Canon stated: ” The firmware will be available to download from mid-March from the Canon website http://www.canon.com/eos-d/ ”

Expect it to be available since March 16th.

PLEASE: When updating remember to carefully follow the instructions. Do it with a fully charged battery, and do not remove it, do nor open the battery door nor memory card door during the process.
